VEHICLE DESCRIPTION:
VEHICLE HISTORY: This wagon was assembled in Long Beach, California, and spent most of its life in Southern California. At some point it ventured “South of the Border” evidenced by window stickers showing a Mexican Antique Auto Registration and membership in the FMAAC (Mexican Antique and Collectable Automobile Federation).
The current owner of this nice woodie has owned it for a little over four years and has run out of storage for his toy! He bought it in 2007 from a California owner. It was restored a number of years before and modified for highway cruising and reliability with a Small Block Chevy V8 and a GM Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed transmission. It was also converted to a 12 volt electrical system with an electric fuel pump.
Upon delivery the current owner took it to a shop and had the following done to make it mechanically reliable for his use:
- Steel Fuel Lines
- Transmission Cooler Lines
- Trans. Pan Filter/Gasket
- Ignition Wires, Belts
- Vacuum Advance
- Distributor & Cap
- Front/Rear Brake Hoses
- Front Brake Shoes
- Front Wheel Cylinders
- Resurface Front Brake Drums
- Repack Front Wheel Bearings
- Wheel Bearing Grease Seals
- Replace Front Shocks
- Replace Rear Leaf Springs
- Modern Ignition Switch
- New Battery
Once it was ready to go, he decided to juice it up with some stereo equipment:
(Unfortunately the stereo has power, but is not currently operating)
- Pioneer DEH-P7900BT AM/FM Bluetooth Stereo w/iPod Connectivity
- Modified Kick Panels W/Infinity 2-Way Speakers
- Hands Free Mobile Phone Microphone
This Woodie has had a recent LOF service and coolant refresh, and is ready to for a new owner to drive and enjoy.
MARQUE HISTORY: The “Shoebox” Fords for 1951 shared most body components with the 1949 – 1950 models but a few trim changes made a substantial difference in looks. The horizontal bar in the grille had the single large spinner replaced by two smaller spinners which were mounted at the ends of the bar. The hood ornament was new along with the bumper guards. New deep headlight bezels gave the lamps a recessed look. While all other 1951 Fords received a new dash and instruments, the Country Squire kept a slightly retrimmed 1950 design. However, it did accept the new steering wheel with delta-wing hub.
The 1951 Custom Deluxe Country Squire “Woodie” Station Wagon was a two door, 8-passenger vehicle. It is rare as there were only 29,017 built in 1951. It was the highest price model in the lineup selling for $2,255 (not including options). For 1951 Ford switched to the Ionia Body Company to build their station wagons. Ionia had long experience turning out woody wagons for GM. It made economic sense for Ford to outsource this labor intensive work to a company set up to do exactly this kind of job. 1951 proved to be the end of an era for Ford wagons. Never again would its wagons have wood sections integral to the body construction.
